In November 2019, at the same time as the General Election, we held our own internal voting day. Children in each class voted for their peers to become representatives for their classes. One boy and one girl was chosen to become the School Council Representative.
In the first meeting that took place, chaired by the Joint Head Teacher Mr. Rowan, the School Council Norms for the meetings were decided. The Council was shown how agendas are put together and this has become the responsibility of a pair to compile prior to each meeting.
Meetings, that take place every three weeks, have resulted in new playground equipment being purchased and a launch of a competition to design a new 'quiet area' in the playground.
The school raised some money at the Christmas Fayre and some of these funds were designated to the school council to spend on whatever they thought was necessary.
After a discussion in each class and a fair voting event, the decision was to invest the funding in some new playground equipment to use at break times.
