Science Week Beginning 29th June 2020

This week we are going to carry on thinking about light and shadows. I want you to look at the PowerPoint about light and shadows. Then can you find something in your house which is opaque, something which is transparent and something translucent? Draw and label them in your exercise book.

Science Week Beginning 22nd June 2020

This week we are going to think about shadows. Choose a sunny day and go outside. Here is a link to the weather report so you can find out when it will be a good day to try.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2639093/today

Mark a spot on the ground where you will stand each time. Make sure you will get the sun there as much as possible. Stand on the spot at different times during the day. Get an adult or an older child to mark where your shadow comes to.

In your exercise book, write what you did and what you noticed about your shadow. Did the direction of your shadow change? Did it stay the same length?

Challenge: Why do you think it did this?

Science Week Beginning 15th June

This week we are going to think about sources of light.

In your exercise book write the title ‘Sources of Light’ then draw and label pictures of different sources of light.

Underneath write the title ‘Not Sources of Light’ then draw some things that people might think are sources of light but are not, like the moon.

Science: Week Beginning 8th June

This week we are going to move on to learning about Light. First of all, we are going to look at the dangers of the sun.

Use the power point to learn about how the sun can be dangerous.

Afterwards design a poster to teach people about keeping safe in the sun.

Complete the activities on-line.

If you have any seeds at home, plant them and watch them grow. You could take the pips out of fruit and try to grow them. Why not make your own newspaper seed pots to put the seeds in?

Science

Over the next few weeks, we are going to find out about plants. To start with, let’s see how much you remember from last year.

Draw a picture of a flower in your book.

Label these parts:

roots, stem, leaf, petals.

Read the explanations of what each part does and copy it next to the correct part of the plant?
